Dear
Friends and Family, December
2001
As I sit
down to write yet another installment of the yearly “Nelson Family Review,” I
can guess there are several out there asking, “Where will the Nelson family
letter be written from this year?” (As some of you know, we had developed a
penchant for moving around!)
To those of you who flew to Vegas and
wagered on our transient behaviors, I have both good and bad news. On the good
side, this year’s letter is being penned in the rocky mountain state of
Colorado. Unfortunately for the gamblers, my residency is limited to the
confines of a business trip that will end shortly. Nonetheless, how apropos it
is that I write this letter while traveling. Lord knows I have done my fair
share this year!
Cyle is still working for Adept
Technology. Though they are based in California, Cyle manages a small regional
office in Irving, Texas. That puts him at fifteen months with the same company,
nearly a record for those keeping track. Cyle likes what he does but
unfortunately travels between 20-50% of the time. Other than that, things are
as calm as can be expected, and Cyle likes it that way.
Laura is also doing well. She looks
after our two children, Margaret and Cal and does a great job. This year, she
also filled her time selling Mary Kay cosmetics, donating lots of time with
Margaret’s kindergarten class, and working with the mothers group at the local
Catholic Church. She keeps herself very busy.
Margaret, now 5, is in Kindergarten at
Dove Elementary School in Grapevine. Her favorite pastime is drawing and
coloring pictures. Margaret would gladly draw and color a picture for each and
every one of you. Just let her know. She is good at it and she knows it! The
first month of kindergarten was an adjustment for her, but she has adapted well
and truly enjoys going to school. She has broadened her social and academic
skills. The experience has been good for her.
Cal, now 2, is very happy and equally
independent little boy. He has recently discovered the loves of his life: lawn
mowers, bulldozers, air compressors, and any other piece of major capital
equipment that makes humming, whirling, or rumbling noises. He is currently in
a 1 day a week preschool and he loves it. His favorite aspect is the fact that
a construction site is next to the preschool classroom. He longingly looks out
the window at the machines as they going by. At home, one of his favorite play
activities is to pretend he is vacuuming or mowing in our living room. He even
tries to makes the noises the vacuum or mower would make.
For the Nelson family, the past year
has been one of settling down and establishing roots. We really enjoy living in
Grapevine, Texas and are content and grateful for what we have.
From all
of us at the Nelson family, we wish you a safe, healthy, and happy holiday
season.
Peace to
you all in 2002.
